There are usually way more polling locations open on election day than during early voting. They set up polling at churches, schools, and community centers all over.
During early voting I have to go to the courthouse which is in the next town over. There aren’t any polling places in my city.

Reddit was never “mainstream social media”. Annecdotally, I have heard more people referring to Reddit in casual conversation so maybe it is becoming more widely accepted.
If that’s true, then I still have no regrets about leaving. If I wanted to look at a news feed full of hot garbage I would have stayed on Facebook.

I’ve heard it referred to as a “coal chute”. They were probably common in quite a few regions in the US. North/Midwest and North East if I had to guess. Those are areas with lots of houses that were built in the late 1800’s - early 1900’s when central heating was really becoming commonplace. Houses would have typically had a basement and the town would have needed rail access to supply the sheer volume of coal needed.
I think oil became a more common fuel source after WWII because it was cheaper and easier to handle. Lots of the same houses with those little doors also have a small hole that someone cut in the middle of the basement stairs so they could fill the oil tank that was installed under the stairs. Gravity furnaces were not very efficient but they were easy to convert to oil burning.
I grew up in a part of the northern Midwest where just about every house built before the 1940’s has a small steel door in the foundation, usually on the same side as the driveway. It was used to deliver coal which was shoveled through the door, into a bin in the basement and eventually burned to heat the house, most likely in a big “octopus” furnace or a boiler.
It always fascinated me that so many houses had this one little thing that was once an incredibly necessary feature that was eventually shut and sealed from the inside, probably never to be opened again.

I have this memory from when I was a kid. I was standing in the middle of the woods at my grandparents, watching big fluffy snow flakes fall around me. The only sound I could hear was a light breeze blowing through the pine trees. I don’t know why but it almost felt magical. To this day I still love that sound.

That depends on the state but at least in my state it requires a court order for both situations.
“Mrs. [Husbands firstname lastname]” is a pretty dated form of address. I feel like I don’t see that a lot anymore. Except in very formal situations and from people who don’t realize it’s out of style. It’s also seems to have become more acceptable to refer to all women as “Miss/Ms.” Regardless of her martial status. I sincerely doubt the address mistake was meant to be offensive.
One thing I do find infuriating is the fact that it in numerous states in the US, it is much harder for a man to take his wife’s last name when getting married than the other way around. A woman can mail a form and a copy of her marriage license to the Social Security Administration and get the DMV to reissue her driver’s license. That’s all it takes.
A man often has to get a court order which I think is very discriminatory.

Single party states, where power is highly centralized and unilateral action is possible, lack the expectation that justice will be executed unmolested since the system responsible for executing it lacks the autonomy and authority to do so.
People sometimes complain about the constant “tug of war” that naturally occurs in more Republican governments but that’s simply a byproduct of the “Separation of powers”. It can make things long and drawn out but it at least helps prevent things like a legal system with a 99% conviction rate when there’s no conceivable way 99% of the defendants are actually guilty.
“Look at how much we’re winning! So much winning!” Frantically screams country currently seeking assistance from North Korea for a “three day special military operation” which is now in its third year.
I hear a lot of devs that don’t seem to get this.

No, Why would I spend a week coding something that I can create a pivot table and some charts for in an hour? Especially when if I code it myself, that means I now own and have to support my lovely new utility. Time is money and I’ve got way more important things to do than build custom reporting suites that no one except me is ever going to use.
Lol Google sheets has nowhere near the capabilities of Excel. They’re not even in the same class.
And still the spreadsheet gold standard. Microsoft gets plenty of shit wrong but Excel is one thing they got right.

I once worked for a big corporation that makes hydraulic rescue tools, where management somehow failed to grasp that the chief selling point of these tools is that they do the job reliably every time. No firefighter wants to be trying to get someone out of a car like, “Damnit! The cutter is acting up again. We should probably look into that.”
But the executives kept demanding that we add “features” to the tools that effectively compromised the reliability and then got all surprised Pikachu face when it was explained to them that the customers thought the tools were overpriced half-assed garbage.
I guess my point is I’ve seen plenty of incredibly stupid examples of management ignoring the engineers and yet somehow Musk demanding that radar be scrapped in favor of cameras is right at the top of the list. Especially if you want your customers to live long enough to buy your products more than once.
