Maybe these fucks should find a more honest “business model” that doesn’t rely on handouts from a monopolist like, who knows, maybe try and talk to governments to be their default browser and be paid for support? Or refocus your efforts and trim the fat from the top that’s sucking millions out of the org for firing people and making bad decisions? Or let your users donate money directly to firefox development instead of going “we’ll accept your money, but it might go into anything but firefox”? Or a bunch of other things that don’t mean keeping the biggest invader of privacy alive just so that you can survive?

Isn’t email easy to use? Do people know that it’s federated? Probably not, but it’s easy to understand because they have been exposed to it for so long that it’s natural to them without knowing how it works. Why do you assume the same cannot happen for the fediverse? It’s basically social media built on top of email.
The major mistake people make is trying to explain technical stuff to people who don’t give a fuck. “Look at your email account, it’s YOURNAME@WEBSITE, well, that’s the same for lemmy and mastodon, pick a website you like, create an account, and that’s it”. Everyone knows what a website is, everyone knows what email is, everyone knows (but probably hasn’t realised) that they can send emails to SOMEBODYELSE@OTHERWEBSITE, that’s it.

What follows is a list of missteps Mozilla made since its inception. LibreWolf ftw. I hope Google has to divest of Chrome and forced to stop signing search deals to make them the default search engine on a browser. Can’t happen soon enough.
No, I want mozilla to die and for a better project to rise in its ashes. It might even drive the EU to decide that funding or even running a browser program is worth the money due to sovereignty reasons. At least with Mozilla gone there will be new projects for the developers to work on without being burdened by sticking to the status quo. We might see some actual innovation instead of “Google did this, now we have to too”.
Chrome being spun off from Google would be the best thing to happen to the open web.
What a shitty headline. That’s the entirely wrong question to be asking and the real question is at the bottom of the article “Do you truly believe the web would be better off in a world where Mozilla no longer exists?”. My answer is a full-throated “YES!!!”. Fuck Mozilla.
You don’t need 500 million dollars a year to develop browser. Seriously, what the fuck are you doing with all that money? Ukraine is building thousands of drones with that money, maybe even spinning up a new nuclear program. You mean to tell me that developing a browser costs more than the nuclear program of one of the biggest arms producers in the world? You have got to be shitting me.
Firefox not being able to compete with that amount of money for a decade or more is just proof of gross incompetence on the part of Mozilla’s leadership. It’s not 500 million dollars as a one time donation, it’s 500 million dollars every single year for what, 10 years? Let’s say they started at 200 and only recently got to 500 million. That’s maybe 300 million per year for 10 years, making it 3 cool billion dollars. How many developers does that pay? Even if every single employee cost 1 million, that would be 200 and now 500 employees.
The more you break it down, the worse it looks for Mozilla. They are disorganised, have too many goals, make phenomenal waste of resources, and are doing the least amount possible to keep getting Google’s money. It’s made them languid and dependent. They should stop hogging the spotlight and let a better, more driven, less money-hungry suitor take their place.
I don’t even know what “it” is. A recommendation algorithm? But peertube already has a “similar” video section to the right of all videos. Does this replace that? Techies really have a problem with presenting stuff to laymen.
A feeling of power.
If any of the top 500 youtube channels joined peertube, things would surely change. Unfortunately a few of those have started their own video platforms e.g Mr Beast has his own.
I’m sure if a few of the top youtube channels of the biggest countries joined peertube that would also give an important push to peertube.
