Bitcoin has been moving like the stock market since 2020. Big investors got involved, small investors lost trust in stocks. I don’t fully expect the current halving to cause the rally like all the other times it halved. That is assuming it doesn’t keep bombing shortly after breaking $69,420, what I suspect is a meme sell limit price.

A car is far from the only consumer of petroleum. Many electrical grids directly use hydrocarbons, construction uses petroleum, public transportation uses petroleum, local shipping uses petroleum, overseas shipping uses petroleum, manufacturing uses petroleum, plastic is made from petroleum, farms run on petroleum… Sure, most of those industries are trying to convert energy sources, but in no way can an individual avoid petroleum consumption and still live. Avoiding windows and Adobe is less insurmountable, but still a powerful stressor for people just trying to make a living.

Because we, the individuals, do not have the power to change it with an individual boycott and need to keep our livelihood intact. Go try to break you unhealthy relationship with petroleum.

If I make a gas engine with 100% heat efficiency but only run it in my backyard, do the greenhouse gases not count because it’s so efficient? Of course they do. The high efficiency of a data center is great, but that’s not what the article laments. The problem it’s calling out is the absurdly wasteful nature of why these farms will flourish: to power excessively animated programs to feign intelligence, vainly wasting power for what a simple program was already addressing.

It’s the same story with lighting. LEDs seemed like a savior for energy consumption because they were so efficient. Sure they save energy overall (for now), but it prompted people to multiply the number of lights and total output by an order of magnitude simply because it’s so cheap. This stems a secondary issue of further increasing light pollution and intrusion.

Greater efficiency doesn’t make things right if it comes with an increase in use.

Yes, that particular costume was the cover picture the entire time before I watched it (Netflix). It switched to a couple other shots of that character as I progressed but I don’t know if it was related. As a Halloween enthusiast, I have studied this picture a lot and I’m always excited to see it. In my opinion, it (and other moments with this costume) is just perfectly unsettling. I guess because of the very clean seams around the mask, perfectly masking the wearer’s identity. The eyes are so perfectly black and the face so perfectly pointed at the viewer. It’s probably also fueled by the sex appeal, tricking me into the danger zone. That’s even before I found out how unsettling the scene actually is. It caused me concern in a daily activity for a couple weeks (no spoilers).

Anyway, as for the show, I really enjoyed it as well. It’s a series of separate events being retold by daddy/grandpa Usher, leading up to the present. It’s horror and fairly gruesome without toouch gore, but, imo, tells a damn good story. I greatly enjoyed the pacing of the reveals and the action. I would say it resembles American Horror Story as a genre, but without as much senseless violence and horror - or maybe it tells you it isn’t so senseless. Maybe a little more sexually driven but certainly less gory.

It was also cool, as a Battlestar Galactica fan, see two BSG actors come up. Mary MacDonell as a titular series character, and Michael Trucco as an episode character. I enjoyed the music, both the soundtrack and score, so much that I was surprised it wasn’t Bear McCreary.

Like I said, I’m just here to talk about The Fall of the House of Usher. I recommend it as an 8-episode self-contained series. I enjoyed the placement and delivery of all the actors in their roles.

I understand it’s an industry problem, but I think credit should be given to Pixar, at least for now. I do have to say, I was surprised some sequels to their IP wasn’t actually Pixar, like Planes. I still don’t think a single sequel is cause for complaint, though. I generally enjoy the criss-crossing sequels of the Marvel universe because it saves a lot of time without extra exposition at the start. DC is where I’d complain about the lack of new IP because they love rehashing Batman and Superman. But even still, those are Rollercoaster movies meant to be fun, not a deep exploratory plot more akin to spending a day hiking a mountain instead of a theme park. The biggest issue with new IP is convincing the audience why they need to get attached to the characters in the first 20 minutes. Plenty of new movies come out and they typically flop.

Yes, Bush was the president for most of 2008. Obama got a short portion, although the exact president in place doesn’t necessarily tell you if they agreed anyway. Since president’s don’t really write law, I was looking for the exact law to see the history of which representatives were pushing it. I wanted to see what the angle was for that piece of the bill and what else was attached to it. Nothing gets passed as an individual law, meaning it was probably a rider in a much larger group of laws that likely made it a non-negotiable requirement bundled into a more pressing matter.
