  • Thank you. It reminds me of All You Need Is Kill, or the Edge of Tomorrow. In these kinds of movies they absolutely gloss over the massive amounts of time between the first repetition and the one that breaks the loop. Because, 90% of that is nothing, while %10 is incremental growth toward the break. Everyone’s played a game like a ‘souls like’, chess even, or a card game, and it takes hundreds of repetitions* to get slightly better. All I Need Is Kill does a good job of painting that picture, and The Edge of Tomorrow does a somewhat decent job of portraying that for cinema (they really should have kept the number count on his hand to subtly and fully express the time frame here). Honestly, for the movie, Groundhogs Day, we probably only see about 15-30 reps. But, the viewer can imagine significantly more. Same with something like the Apple+ show Black Matter, at the end of the season we’re led to believe what we saw as a dozen or so universes is now thousands, and it makes sense after the curtain is lifted.

  • I think it’s safe to assume that if you can control promotions you’ll promote those who better fit your ideology. And if you also implement a ‘red scare’ labeling and removing anyone who holds different ideologies than yours… all that will be left are those willing to obey what would have been illegal orders, and those that believe your orders aren’t illegal.

Edit: remember, they only just removed DA photos from the SRB, because they had a problem with promotions going to people who ‘looked like military leaders’ which was very heavily favoring ‘strong white men’.

A roll back of policies like that, reimplementing things like ‘Don’t ask, Don’t tell’, labeling progressives or democrats as socialists or commies, labeling non-religious people similarly as non-American, discriminating against minorities again and labeling them as others… also, don’t forget that 1 member of Congress held up our top promotions for how many months?.. due to his personal belief about abortion rights? The ground work is already being laid.

‘Woke policies are weakening our military!’ ‘Women don’t belong in combat fields!’ ‘Permitting trans and gays in the military made us the laughing stock of the world!’ ‘Roll back woke mandates in the military!’… feels like an easy path to follow, there.

    Edit 2: https://fortune.com/2024/11/13/pentagon-stunned-trump-nomination-pete-hegseth-fox-news-defense-secretary/

“Hegseth’s choice could bring sweeping changes to the military, as he has made it clear on his show and in interviews that, like Trump, he is stridently opposed to “woke” programs that promote equity and inclusion. He’s also questioned the role of women in combat and advocated pardoning service members charged with war crimes.”

    Here we go!

  • He had the threat of impeachment for misuse of Presidential power before. Now he doesn’t, the House will never be able to bring that against him while in Republican control, and the Senate’s still his. I’m willing to bet we get to see a huge increase in Democrats being impeached across the country. Impeaching Democratic judges, formerly appointed for life. Sure, you’ll need some Democrats on your side, but once everyone is afraid of the gazpacho (/s), more than enough will fall in line. They’re ‘official Presidential acts’ remember, and if you thought they weren’t, their hand selected judges would disagree with you and approve the acts.

Hell, it’s already been mentioned before, all he needs to do is claim a ‘red scare’, then investigate, impeach, and purge the ranks of those that don’t fall in line. And it doesn’t have to be blatant assassination, the people will believe what they’re told.

Edit: uniquely, other than having dissidents randomly fall out windows, Congressmen/women can be expelled without impeachment, with a 2/3rds vote in their respective houses (little ‘h’). So, say a few start throwing themselves out the 5th floor window of hotels… enough remaining will prostrate themselves and vote to expel their peers, same as they would to impeach SCOTUS or federal judges.

  • Ooof, the both sides propaganda is wild. If you are even a voter in this election, instead of a member of an astroturfing campaign, you and the current election results really does show that we have the memory of goldfish. And that we really can’t differentiate between ‘not the best’ and ‘absolutely terrible and catastrophic for global democracy’.

Its like that study with children or dogs, where a treat is placed on the table but then a bigger one is promised if they wait, or with dogs two different treats are put on the table but one is bigger than the other and they only get to choose one. Neither party can see or wrap their head around the difference between the two and how one reward is significantly better for them.

  • The shitty thing is, the long lines are by design. Election officials are regularly closing polling locations in inner cities because ‘they don’t have the funding to keep so many open’, when the state government chooses not to fund them. Rural areas have always had quick in-and-out voting merely due to how many people they’re providing for. While increasing the wait times at inner city polling places causes some voters to either not get the chance to vote because either they’re not allowed to at some point, or the extra votes aren’t sent up because they were too late… or it causes people to go home instead of wait in the freezing cold ass line for 4-6 hours. Some people were complaining about 8 hour lines that year.

They cheat to win however they can.

  • I remember rushing home, changing out of my uniform and jumping in line at the local library… and I stood there for like 4-6 hours in the freezing cold. Rosario Dawson, the actress, actually came by with donuts, back before the republicans outlawed providing food and water to people in voting lines. I actually took a picture of my wife with her, she was so kind. My wife and I were taking turns hiding in the car to stay warm, and saving a place in line. I couldn’t believe how cold and how long the line was. The shitty thing was that it was also extremely windy, the cold bit hard.

This was Atlanta, GA probably for the Biden/Trump election in 2020. I’ve voted early ever since, I walk in and out within like 15 minutes now. I’m not doing 4-6 hour lines ever again.

Edit: poll workers actually came out and designated someone as the last voter, and we stayed in line well past the normal close time. But, they had to get the last person who showed up before close.

  • My wife, probably the year before last, got a fancy home made from scratch cake for her birthday from her fancy pastry chef friend. Well, she loved the thing so much she’d bring it out for dessert every night, the whole thing, and nibble on small bites until she had enough and put it back in the fridge. Savoring each night and bite. Well, she should have taken a small cut from it each night, leaving the remainder in the fridge, and nibbled on that. Anyway, live and learn. By the end of the week she finished off the cake… and got thoroughly sick over the weekend.

I couldn’t help but laugh a little at the absurdity of the situation, but I felt so bad for her. It was an amazing cake, but yeah. If you’re going to savor something like that, please cut a portion out each night instead of taking it out and putting it back after about 30-45 minutes nightly.
