  • I moved to Linux Mint after a brief stint with Manjaro. I don’t prefer the Cinnamon interface, but gaming has been perfect. Bottles, allows me to install GOG Galaxy and the games run. I even modded Skyrim using a manual process and a ton of animation mods, that worked alright a lot of times with Vortex ( for the most part).

Linux can handle NTFS partitions, and just take a small line to fix if they are open during a crash. Flatpak software is really stable to install and keep installed.

I haven’t yet had a problem with steam games.

The only problem I have is with streaming services forcing Windows usage, so I got a VPN and raised the Jolly Roger to watch streaming services.

My 3080 plays games fine, and the few times it got a little slow I rebooted and it all worked fine. Discord calls and Twitch work fine. I even take my VA Online appointments with no issues.

It’s closer to going back to Windows 7 or XP, with a decent free office software.

  • You cannot assume that all the people unable to evacuate were obstinate religiously minded conservatives. Very few people have the means to leave their residence when the time comes.

Not everyone owns a vehicle. Not everyone can walk their way out of the path of a storm. What about all the people left in nursing homes. Katrina saw a lot of people forced to stay. Unless there are no homeless people in that section of Florida, I’m ptlretty sure there a lot more forced to stay than those who choose to stay.

Letting everyone die isn’t a good way to get people to learn and change their minds.

  • I just wish they would ban the plastic bags and force paper bags. The thick plastic bag problem came from not mandating paper only. Plus a lot of those polyester bags were so poorly made, they didn’t last long enough to male a difference.

Maybe it’s just me wanting to go back to the stores of my youth when plastic was a rarity.

  • I hear you. I was looking more for Arch with less of a hassle. Something similar to my Steamdeck. I guess I should just wipe this weekend for something else. I really want something for playing my steam and GOG games that works with my Nvidia 3080.

Luckily for me I keep every game installed on different Steam Libraries so wiping my install drive to put something else in isn’t difficult.

  • I’m glad I just setup Linux two weekends ago. It was simple to install all of my hardware worked well. I only miss a couple of minor features like the LED software and my overclocking software.

And those really aren’t that big of a deal since I haven’t had a failure to play a game so far.

It was at least 20 years since I tried Linux, and the changes are wild. I didn’t even choose a simple distro and haven’t even had too difficult of a time.

  • I just installed Manjaro over my windows 10 drive and the effort so far has been way easier than I thought.

KDE Plasma reminds me a lot of WIn 10, and nearly everything I did on my windows system works under Linux without hassle. The only issue I had were certain technical things like overlooking my GPU and setting up my LED lights.

  • Well I spent Sunday night installing Manjaro and so far so good. It’s been almost 30 years since the last time I used Linux, and KDE Plasma is really easy to use.

I decided to wipe my Win 10 drive so there was no going back. I was able to install and play games like normal, and I even used the command line to pull and build the Mullvad VPN App from the Arch store, and sign the app certificate.

The best part was once I setup the steam libraries Steam pulled all the information from those drives and all my games that weren’t on my Windows SSD were ready to go. All of my peripherals just worked and the Nvidia driver was fine.

I’m just missing some GOG Games, but Heroic should take care of that. Painless and simple.

It’s amazing how much has changed in over 20 years.
