I retired from programming because of that “open floor plan” shit, with the added bonus of no permanent desks. It’s so insane to inflict that bullshit on programmers in particular, because our productivity (or mine at least) requires a quiet, distraction-free environment.

I’m a programmer. In 2010 I had a boss come up to me and tell me we should start using APIs. He had just read an article about how APIs were the next big thing. Fortunately he had a short attention span and soon wandered off and never mentioned APIs again, and I was able to get back to work on the awesome Blackberry app I was writing.
I have a coworker who insists that global warming is a hoax because plants give off oxygen, not carbon dioxide. Can’t even get a foothold in that kind of stupid.
Or better yet, get someone to help you quit.

When I was a kid I volunteered at the local recycling center. My hippie parents were so proud of my environmental consciousness lol.
I had a boss years ago and I knew everything about his financial situation because he had hired me to trade S&P500 futures with/for him. He had about $20 million in stock, a beach house in South Carolina worth a couple million, and he owned a temp agency that paid him about $40,000 a month, so he was certainly rich by any normal human standards. But he had moved from San Francisco and was friends with a bunch of venture capital types who were all worth more than a couple of hundred million dollars, and it was obvious that his (relative) poverty absolutely burned him to his core. This was why he imagined that day-trading futures was going to be his key to the really big time - he could never see that the brokerages we dealt with were just scamming him.
I deal with one of the big companies that supplies these workers and the vast majority of their personnel are “bodies.”
InfoSys. My issue with these folks is that generally speaking they go into programming because it’s a lucrative career, not because they have even a mild interest in it as an activity. I’ve encountered a few exceptions to this in my career, but they’re extremely rare.

They’re not in any way associated with Amazon, as far as I know. But apparently they sell their customer data to them - and immediately.
My weirdest Amazon experience was when I went to Lowe’s and bought a drill bit and a pair of cabinet door hinges, and just looked at cabinet pulls for a minute or two - didn’t buy any or even pick any up. That night, Amazon recommended for me drill bits, cabinet door hinges … and cabinet pulls. I’m assuming that I got linked to in-store footage from Lowe’s, which is creepy but certainly not suprising.
GOTO is overrated. On Error Resume Next is where it’s at.
I remember how I used to enjoy channel surfing with cable for hours on end. But that was because I would often land on the History Channel which was showing something about … history, or some other interesting channel. Now I try it once in a while while riding my exercycle and it’s just an absolute wasteland with nothing interesting on. How is it possible to have literally 1000+ channels without anything worth watching? Even the Food Channel has become worthless - now it’s just hours of the “Pioneer Woman”, a nasty creature who only has a cooking show because she’s married to one of the richest men and largest landowners in Oklahoma.
It’s not that shitty, maybe. In the district where I work, we get $31 an hour (for about 5 hours a day), health insurance (the main reason I do it) and eventually a small pension. The break in the middle of the day is great since I can go for a bike ride and have lunch and a long nap, and I can take my elderly parents to doctors’ appointments as necessary. In other districts it does suck though, since the pay can be much less (more like $18-22 an hour) with no benefits.

Lol premiums are literally their entire source of revenue. The CEO of an enormous publicly-traded company had a focus on keeping revenue as low as possible? If this were actually true, the people most likely to have killed him would be everybody on the board and everybody else in the c-suite.
That is difficult to believe.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t stand the sight of my coworkers any better than the sound of them.
