Thanks! Learning more every day
Also, beautiful design, and probably not bad for a touchscreen (terrible for mouse though)

Happy to see Foundation fans around :D
Seconding “Foundation” soooooo much. One of my teen favorites. Also full of references to other Asimov’s books, so many will get much more familiar after reading this.
If I understood it correctly, in this context it means that the icons normally retain the original logo and color scheme, while incorporating them into a single style.
Given that my country is Russia and you are probably trying to escape an authoritarian regime, you may consider another destination.
But still, I think Americans are generally welcome. People can make lighthearted jokes about it and be surprised, but you’ll be a welcome guest after all. Bonus points if you say American government, and particularly Department of State, is shit :D
Language barrier might be an issue - most Russians above ~35 have very poor English skills, and younger folks mostly have it on A2-B2 level.
Oh, and the country is sanctioned to hell, so sending money in and out is an additional hurdle. But if you retain your American credit card, you’ll be alright and at least able to make payments outside the country.
Nothing beats parafilm scarf
It is very obvious they meant it draws no power from the grid. And it doesn’t, indeed, acting fully autonomously.
I don’t think so.
Having less children means having worse ratio of elderly to young people, which strains social security and may ultimately force seniors to work until they die, while young generation will see an ever greater burden of disabled elderly.
Unless you want to shoot people after certain age, that is. But, happily, this is a tradeoff unlikely to be accepted.
I’m not quite onboard with your “punishing men” rhetoric later in the thread, but here I agree
Like, how many attempts are now undertaken to pitch men and women against one another or otherwise separate them, and how far can this rabbit hole go?
Men are growing wary of women - and everyone’s cheering as MGTOW raises heads again. Women are getting increasingly defensive - and breed fear and loathing, as crowds cheer again. Both play off each other to show how much the other side sucks.
One is only seen as friendly if they support this division; anyone trying to bridge it is seen as a bad actor.
Stop it. Fuck 4B. Fuck MGTOW. Fuck that conservative dude who thinks they have a right for a woman’s body. Fuck those who put all men into sexual offenders category. Let common sense, love, and responsibility to each other prevail. Go outside and protest gerontocrats trying to take women’s right for their own body. Allow and encourage men to stand alongside and be part of the fight against forces many of them didn’t choose. Never put all people in one basket, and fight your true enemy.
Sure, but effective enough to make a drastic change to fertility rate.
Still, I see where you’re going with it
I see. Think it’s an overkill and people can use contraception instead of going full separate, but there is kind of a point in there
What’s the point?
I understand why they would choose not to date men that advocate against abortions and stuff - that’s basic dignity and self-protection.
But why not date any other men? To hurt demographics to the best of their ability state-wise? Then this is primarily a problem set 15-20 years into the future, and may not really see the government’s reaction for a while.
It is likely to be similar or somewhat lower price, give or take, but it will take you some effort and time to make (think at least 2 hours for a regular single-stage yeast bread, longer for sourdough)
If you want to save on your groceries, this probably isn’t the optimal way unless bread is heavily overpriced in your area.
Also, mixing in proteins might necessitate changes in recipe/process depending on what you add - just a heads up if you’re gonna do it anyway :)
Fair enough! But won’t they flip again to start the program?
The most beautiful thing about this program is that it would work.
Various bit flips will once lead to all numbers being in the correct order. No guarantee the numbers will be the same, though…
For some people, joking can be relieving.
For others, totally not.
I don’t know what to make of it, but if you’re the latter, it’s okay, and you shouldn’t be downvoted so much. But, if you can, don’t take it so seriously. This is not meant to be a slippery slope.
As a lemmy.today user myself (though not American), it’s cozy in there!
But the numbers are surprisingly low. It’s an instance that is run without donations though, only on the good will of its creator (who refuses donations citing sufficient income to keep it as a hobby project), so I imagine having it big could potentially become a strain.
Lemmy World mods doing something good for once.
No, US exceptionalism is turning every single general purpose community into US politics.
For the 4% of Earth’s population that does indeed live in the US, there could be local communities.
As a microbiologist, I get to work with such freezers from time to time - they, too, get used for long-term storage. Technically, at around +4°C most organisms (but not all) put their activity to a halt, which is why your fridge is set at that, and at around -18°C just about everything stops any processes (thereby, freezer temperature), but the thing is, freezing at -18°C leads to the formation of relatively large ice crystals, which causes many cells to rip and die, which is perfectly fine if you want to preserve food (except cells in food also rip and unfrozen products are not quite like the original), but not optimal if you want to store cells themselves. If you freeze at -80°C and lower, smaller ice particles end up not damaging the organisms so much, and they can later be restored. However, such fridges are expensive and draw, like, A LOT of power, and storing much stuff under such conditions gets costly.
Nowhere near as costly as the offerings are, though.
