i followed a wikipedia rabbit hole based on bob newhart, and found this movie.
seems like typical 70s farcical garbage but it is greater than the sum of its parts. lear’s directing prolly doesnt hurt.
tom poston gives an amazing performance as the town drunk… newhart and dick van dyke play against type as some not-so-nice people. the cast is packed with seasoned actors of the era.
its just flat-out funny. i love the running gag with the priest treating his wife like garbage. so many well-placed vignettes… background gags.
anyone else a fan of this one?
