There are exemptions from the law, such as those wearing masks for health or religious reasons. But who gets to decide how to enforce that distinction? The legislature’s top Republican insisted police will be able to identify the difference.

Ah, the old “I know it’s a medical condition when I see it” policy that we’ve come to rely on police to assess.

The thing for someone like me who is immunocrompromised is. I need to wear a mask because I have a medical condition.

But also my immediate family and anyone interacting with me needs to wear a mask when in public. Covid is a death sentence for me. So this law doesn’t cover that.

That’s because, and I’m really sorry to say this, they don’t give a shit whether you live or die. If you die, it’s God’s will, even if they’re the cause.

Like it’s one thing for people to not want to wear a mask. Fucking bonkers to make a law banning them. Are criminals gonna be like “shit guys, guess we can’t crime any more”

Also, it’s already a crime for people to steal shit and cause trouble. Even if they aren’t wearing a mask, cops are unlikely to catch these people.

So glad she didn’t get elected to higher office. She’s as dumb as santos with a slightly less sketchy background. Looks like she’s doing ehat she can to spread the dumb though.

It’s not intended for productive effect. It’s a way to identify people who aren’t loyal to the orders of the tribe, and get violent with them.

As it does for a lot of other things, “On Tyranny” by Tim Snyder breaks this down very very well. He talks about the power of symbols, Nazi pins and yellow stars and the “Trump” flag and things like that, in the growth of fascist movements, and the important often overlooked role they play in starting to shape the fabric of day-to-day ordinary people’s lives in obedience to the leader, and engaging ordinary people in enforcing it.

The thing with banning masks isn’t about improving society in any way; as you point out, it’s pure nonsense looked at in that light. It’s about identifying the ones who won’t get in line.

I was talking to a coworker recently about past work experiences and how crazy COVID-19 was when it first came out. I was working at a hospital, not the normal medical kind but a state run psychiatric hospital. Still its a hospital that behaves in hospital ways, especially when it comes to communicable diseases.

So its November 2019 and word is that there is a nasty respiratory disease making its way in the medical news, everyone is a little nervous but we are in eastern Washington, in a small town. The world is very far away, until it isnt.

December comes and the first case of COVID one of my coworkers who had a history of health problems dies a couple weeks after catching COVID. His at home caretaker dies from COVID. His wife who also works at the hospital gets COVID but she tells us she didn’t even really notice it.

That was just the beginning. After about 5 deaths of employees at the hospital they stopped telling us.

I will never forget one person. He called me on a Thursday and left a voicemail requesting I call him back because he hates to go through the help desk and likes a human touch and enjoys my conversations.

I called him back but he went home sick. I tried calling him the next week but he was still out. A week later I go to his desk to see if he is there and there are a bunch of his coworkers there. He passed away over the weekend, COVID won.

I have worked in the hospital/medical industry for over 20 years. 16+ of those were at the # 1 trauma center in Washington State.

I don’t know how so many people can believe this was all just a hoax. I will forever have a great and deep seated hate for people expressing doubt about the deadliness of the disease.

It’s killed tens of millions. And it has disabled tens of millions more. It is absolutely wild how unseriously the right takes it. Horrendous.

Wait until global warming comes for us for real

Tens of millions? Those are rookie numbers. And it happened for exactly the same reasons, and the fuckers KNEW what they were doing. They just wanted to get rich, and didn’t care if it literally destroyed the world. And now the piper’s coming.

                  Global warming will be fucked.

But COVID infections still disable around 2% of people who contract it for life. Now let covid keep on running around for a couple decades and a very large chunk of the population is going to have major issues.

I’m bedridden since 4 years with a lifelong disease caused by a covid infection. And I only see our numbers growing. 2% per infection is the most conservative estimate. The NIH says 5%

Oh I am not saying you are wrong. I still have some minor but significant effects from having had Covid a couple of years ago. I’m saying that global warming once it starts fucking up the food supply will kill on a scale that’s unimaginable to people who currently live in largely safe orderly war/famine free type countries.

I’m very sorry to hear that about your friend and experience. And thank you for your service!

But the answer is simple: it’s a cult. They are brainwashed (and ironically think everyone else are the ones brainwashed). So it doesn’t make sense and they just ignore that or have cognitive dissonance.

And unfortunately it’s just very difficult to dismantle a cult. Just look at scientology/mormonism/jw/etc.

Black people don’t have respiratory issues, so every mask is an attempted murder. Better shoot on sight.

The sad thing is that I would not even be a little surprised if they tried to claim something maybe only slightly less broadly than that non-sarcastically.

There’s a longstanding thing in medicine that black people don’t feel as much pain as white people. It was never true, but for some reason it was believed for a long time.

Things like that are slowly changing, and dark-skin-color prosthetics and textbooks showing e.g. symptoms that present differently on dark skin as light skin, or testing drugs on women instead of only on men and assuming the women probably react like smaller men, etc etc. But a really surprising amount of it has survived even into the modern day.

It’s just common sense science. The black was made as the worker, so naturally they would have more physical immunity.

Oof and Nassau and Suffolk County PDs are terrible. Suffolk cops are the ones that burst into laughter when TFG addressed them and said (paraphrased) “Why do you care so much when putting someone in the back of your police car, protecting their head? Maybe next time don’t worry about it.”

Oh I have no doubt they’ll pull masks off of anyone they feel like. They’ll probably use this as an excuse to pull a transparent oxygen mask from a senior citizen because it “hides their identity.”

So are they saying covid masks are fine since it’s for health reasons but face coverings are not fine? Also, do religious reasons only apply to women covering their faces? The Satanic Church allows me to do whatever I want.
