At BEST, it would explain things too late since corrections never spread anywhere near as far and fast as viral misinformation does.
Some people suggest that its faster to get the correct answer to a question, by posting a wrong answer online, that trying to google it.
Sounds plausible, especially with how enshittificated Google has become…
On one hand, there’s a lot of nonsense on YouTube that it’d be nice to address.
On the other hand, we’re talking about harnessing the wisdom of YouTube comments.
There are a couple channels I watch where I expect community notes to be absolutely abused to make anyone who comes to their channels think they’re either liars or something horrendous. As good of a feature as this is, I have no doubts it’ll be abused.
Great. Now add back community subtitles you bastards.
It would be so easy for Google to improve its comment system at all, and that itself would have a major impact on battling misinformation. But they don’t care. Meh.
