I removed the click bait part of the title.
TIL Firefox has failed, apparently? 🤔
Failed in terms of market share https://www.zdnet.com/home-and-office/networking/the-fall-of-firefox-mozillas-once-popular-web-browser-slides-into-irrelevance/
So by that measure, Internet Explorer was the most successful browser ever? Not sure that’s the best metric.
Not the best metric but one of the metrics.
I still use Firefox as my primary web browser, both on the desktop and on mobile. But I wish Mozilla stops making stupid decisions with Firefox again and again.
The speaker makes a lot of points with no evidence to back them up where he should have some. That’s alright if you want a conversation about browsers at the virtual bar table, but clearly not a great video essay. Some of his points
- An incident in 2017 where Firefox installed a plugin called Mr. Robot without the user’s consent
- Firefox’s default privacy settings are bad
- Donations to Mozilla don’t go towards software development
- The chromium engine has better performance
- Use Brave (repeated about 100 times)
Donations to Mozilla don’t go towards software development
Donations are to the Mozilla Foundation.
Firefox is developed by Mozilla Cerporation, which is its subsidiary.
A corporation cannot receive tax-free donations from the public.
Distrotube is a dumb dick.
